Me: "Sorry to bother you, but can I take a picture of you with your flag? I’m doing a project about people in Richmond, and today’s a big day!"
Woman on Right: "Sure! We’re getting married!"
Me: "Wow, congratulations! I’m so happy for you! When are you getting married?"
Woman on Right: “In a month from today!”

"Hey! Take my picture!"
"You want your picture taken?"
"Yeah, I mean, but you’re not going to show it to the cops or anything, are you?"
"No, of course not."
"Okay, let me just slide my hat down…"

He just looked so epic in the sunlight.
Hi everyone! I know I haven’t been posting a lot - finals were obviously intense and I was in Seattle for a week visiting my parents. But I’m back and ready to get this project into full gear before my trip to China! I leave on July 22 (which happens to be my birthday!). So keep a look out for more images…

Celtic Panda on W. Grace, hours before their show
01 May 2013
On my way to a shoot I saw at least four people I wanted to photograph, but I had no time to stop since (surprise, surprise) I was running really late. Once I parked my car, I saw these guys and immediately asked if I could take their picture in an attempt to redeem myself for not being able to photograph the other people I saw. They said yes and asked me if I wanted to photograph their CD release show tonight, but due to finals coming up, I had to decline. They told me their band name, gave me a sticker, and we made small talk for a few minutes (Grant’s mom, the guy on the right, has the same name as me!). It was a nice photo session/chat… then I saw a number of statuses about Celtic Panda at SMatter tonight. What a small world… and now I know a little more about the music scene in RVA.

West Avenue Garden Party
29 April 2013
- We stumbled into this house during the West Avenue Garden Party, and it was by far the most enjoyable house we visited! We were urged to get drinks from the bar and then take shits with this guy, Jim. When I said “Can I take a picture of you and your wife next to your sun collection?” he replied, “I’m not married, I don’t have a wife. This isn’t my house!” I was really startled and wondered …. Was he just giving us the host’s alcohol? Before I could worry too much, he laughed and said, “Don’t worry, I’m good friends with the host.” And it turned out he was telling the truth. Thanks for the hospitality in someone else’s house, Jim! I had a great time.
